A classic filmmaking question...which frame rate should you use? There are many reasons why you might shoot in 24fps, 60fps, or any other frame rate. In this video, I'll break down some of those reasons in hopes of helping you decide which frame rate is best for you.
Let’s cover the main reasons you might want to shoot in 24fps & 60fps respectively:
24FPS
24 Frames per Second is the cinematic frame rate. Why? Well, 24fps is the way Hollywood movies have been shot for years.
Here are the benefits of shooting 24fps…
Cinematic Look
Better for shooting in low light
Better when recording audio at the same time
Takes up less space on your memory card
60FPS
60 Frames per Second is a higher frame rate option, which allows you to play back your footage in slow motion.
Here are the benefits of shooting 60fps…
Can slow your footage down by 40-50%
Has a crisper look when played back on a 60fps timeline
In the end, it comes down to your opinion. Think about what you will do with your footage in post-production, and then make the decision on which frame rate to use. I often change my frame rate multiple times when I’m out shooting. You don’t ever have to be locked to one frame rate. Good luck!
